Many of us carry a deep fear that something painful from our past will happen again.
Sometimes it's something we experienced firsthand. Other times, it's something we witnessed in our parents’ lives — trauma, betrayal, scarcity, or heartbreak.
Whether conscious or unconscious, that imprint runs deep. And it’s often this fear of repeating the past that keeps us stuck in it.
We find ourselves in the same toxic relationship dynamics.
We end up in yet another draining job or disempowering environment.
We face betrayal, suffering, and burnout over and over again.
It feels like a loop we can’t escape.
We become hypervigilant. Always on alert. Because if it happened once… it could happen again.
In this state, our trust in ourselves and others erodes. We shrink into people-pleasing patterns, trying to control outcomes and avoid conflict. But no matter how hard we try to “be good” or do everything right, the same dynamics find their way back into our lives.
In an attempt to avoid the pain, we run from it instead of facing it. We fear making the same mistakes, but in doing so, we rob ourselves of the wisdom they carry.
In Human Design, this fear is reflected in Gate 44, one of the seven gates associated with survival and the primal fears that kept our species alive back at the beginning of humankind.
At its shadow frequency, this gate expresses itself as Interference — the internal interference that uses past experiences as evidence not to move forward. It keeps us playing small, staying in the familiar, convincing us that it is better to stagnate but stay safe than it is to take the leap and follow our dreams, change jobs, take up space, speak up, set boundaries, start the business, say no, leave the relationship, ask for more money, or trust ourselves to lead.
But here's the truth: this fear, when met with awareness, can become your greatest gift.
At its highest expression, Gate 44 becomes the Pattern Interrupter — the energy of clear sight, of knowing what’s coming before it happens. It holds the gift of pattern recognition, because when you can see the past repeating itself, you can shift it. It holds the gift of healing to yourself and others by catching what’s repeating and consciously choosing differently.
This transformation — from stuck and scared to empowered and aware — becomes possible when you understand that awareness is your superpower, and that every moment holds the potential for healing.
So practice forgiveness for your mistakes, and for the ones passed down to you. Learn from the past. Strengthen your trust in your inner knowing.
The past won’t happen again because this time, you’ll see it… and stop it.

I use Human Design to help individuals strip away conditioning and reconnect with their most authentic selves, to create meaningful change from a place of deep trust and increased confidence.
