What Self-Care Really Looks Like (Based on Your Design)

When we talk about needs, there's one essential piece that often gets left out: nourishment.

Nourishment is much more than just food and hydration.

Think of a baby and the type of multidimensional care they need.

Feeding the baby and making sure they are fresh and clean is not enough. Babies need comfort, they need to be held, they need to be given plenty of opportunities to explore safely, they need movement, closeness, and interaction, just to name a few.

Just like a baby, you, too, need a multi-layered kind of nourishment that supports you physically, emotionally, mentally, and energetically. And only when you deeply nourish yourself at all levels can you access a new level of clarity, ease, and magnetism.

Nourishment is a universal human need, but how to best nourish ourselves is individual

In a perfect world, we'd all be able to follow what feels good to us without confusion or interference. But in reality, we’re constantly navigating conditioning, expectations, and noise that pull us away from hearing our truth, or from listening to it.

That’s where Human Design comes in.

Human Design can offer you powerful insights into how you’re meant to nourish yourself at every level, not as a rigid rulebook to follow, but as a mirror to see yourself more clearly.

For example...

  • Your Energy type reveals how your energy works, what drains you vs. what energizes you, and what rhythms your body needs.

  • Your Authority shows you how to make aligned decisions that won’t leave you feeling depleted or resentful.

  • Your Profile helps you understand how you best process life, relate to others, and express your purpose.

Take a Manifesting Generator, for instance.

For her, self-care looks like letting go of the pressure to finish everything she starts. Giving herself permission to pivot (without needing to justify it) is essential. So is honoring the moment-to-moment sparks of excitement, rather than locking herself into commitments that feel suffocating.

Or consider someone with a 5/1 Profile.

This person benefits greatly from carving out time to retreat, reflect, and gather information before engaging with life. It’s deeply freeing for her to realize she’s not here to solve every problem, that she’s not responsible for the expectations others project onto her, and that she gets to choose what she’s available for. She can also find immense relief in acknowledging the emotional residue that comes with “disappointing” others and consciously releasing it.

Example of a Nourishment Blueprint that I created for a 5/1 Manifesting Generator client

So you see, nourishment is much more complex than we think, and Human Design is a wonderful tool to reconnect with our unique way of creating the perfect mental, emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual environment where you can thrive.

A Nourishment Blueprint isn't a rigid rulebook to follow. It's an invitation to experiment, to listen more closely, to notice what’s draining and what’s nourishing, to let go of the idea that self-care should look a certain way and instead begin to design a life that really fills your cup.
